ABOUT THE CHOIR > HISTORY
From the beginning, Seattle Pro Musica has charmed audiences with precision and passion for the choral arts.
Seattle Pro Musica was founded in 1972 by conductor Richard Sparks, who led the organization until 1980. During his tenure, Seattle Pro Musica earned a reputation as a leading force in the authentic performance of Baroque music, especially that of J.S. Bach. Highlights included performances of Handel’s Messiah in Meany Hall and Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 at St. Mark’s Cathedral.
The current artistic director and conductor, Karen P. Thomas, began her tenure in 1987 and has led the group in twenty of their most successful seasons, regularly performing to full houses and enthusiastic audiences.
